IC434


It was chilly Monday last, down to -3°C, cloudfree, but hazy so that the Milky Way couldn't be seen, a good night for planets, and sure enough, Mars looked well. But this submission is of the environs of Alnitak, the eastern star of Orion's belt.
It is just the Lum part of the picture, on the premise, as Dave once said, that less is sometimes more, and I'm inclined to support the more understated view too.
It was taken with the 80ED and the H9C but with a .5FR in the train to widen the field and encompass both the Horsehead and the Flame. The exposure was 12x600sec.
